MODIPHIUS ADVENT CALENDAR - 20th DECEMBER
We're building up to Christmas day and so here's a big reveal - the unveiling of the new sculpts for the Achtung! Cthulhu miniatures line - this is Wave 5 due out in February.
On the right you have the Deep One Reef Breaker, a large assault Deep One that is brought in when they want to do a lot of damage. The Reef Breaker is posed on a girder with a broken tank barrel and ship's anchor for scale. In the first row below we have Majestic's Pathfinders, demon hunters from the North American & Canadian Indian tribes. I was inspired by reading this story about an incredibly brave Canadian soldier called Tommy Prince - well worth reading and remember his valor. Our own Zarina then researched and helped write the background for these incredible warriors. Only the bravest and most spiritual of the initiated would be sent to Alaska to join the Tlingit peoples and learn further the ways of the demons and how to battle them. Determined by the warrior's adolescent vision quest, those communing with and battling demons would then receive further guidance from their spirit guide. If an elder or medicine man/woman saw the warrior's path entwine with the underworld of demons and dark forces, they would hold a council and decide to send the warrior to the Tlingits to embark on further training. What this training would be, no-one is quite sure, as the Pathfinder Warriors are so secretive, but one can hazard a guess that another type of vision quest is taken, one that is do deep and dark, with instructions given from the spirit world in how to defeat evil. A warrior will arrive at a Tinglit camp, with nothing - humble and whole, but leave with a destiny. Armed, with Tlingit traditional armour, a tomahawk and sacred sword imbued with power. Only the Tlingit worked metal, mysteriously wrought and carved with spells. Of course, where there is a gate, there are two ways evil can flow, and the warriors must navigate the spirit world with great caution and willpower! Beware the warriors of both light and darkness ... Below the Pathfinders there are the three Black Sun Troopers, trained to fight alongside the magic and mythos forces of Black Sun. I wrote about these in the Day 18th Advent Calendar page. Lastly, under the Black Sun troopers, you have the first of Badger's Commandoes, the elite force led by Captain Eric "Badger" Harris and equipped with the Blevins steam weapons. These were devised after the Allies discovered that certain enzymes (digestive biochemicals) dissolve the physical makeup of some trans-dimensional creatures. They fire a gout of superheated steam and high-temperature-activated enzymes, dissolving large chunks of monstrous flesh almost instantly. We'll be revealing more of the Commandoes unit soon. |
We're currently working on the conversion of the Dystopian Legions 2.0 rules by Spartan Games for Achtung! Cthulhu with a lot of discussion of battlefield sanity, mythos terror and magic. We hope to announce more about this very soon.
