Welcome to Achtung! Cthulhu's Living Campaign. It's with great pleasure we launch Modiphius' Frontiers initiative, the first of a series of regular released scenarios that our groups of fans can play together, with the results influencing and shaping each subsequent episode.
++ A word of warning++
if you intend to play through the Living Campaign as a player our advice is to look away now! Inform your friendly local GM of what you've found and where you've found it, ask them to read this, then download this first episode, then go roll up a character or dust of an existing one and get ready to report for duty at your next gaming session! ++Warning ends++
This very first episode for the Achtung! Cthulhu is called A Light on the Mountain and was written by the fantastic John Dodd. In it, a brave group of Allied investigators are called on to monitor the progress of a test flight using a revolutionary new propulsion system. After a routine and thoroughly eventless journey, they report back to HQ that absolutely nothing out of the ordinary has occurred and sit down to enjoy a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake...
Except of course, that they don't. Predictably, the test flight doesn't go according to plan and soon the investigators are knee-deep in a tale of intrigue and mystery, exploring murky goings on in a remote range of peaks and facing an ancient terror, as old and as pitiless as the mountains themselves.
Shaping a big, ongoing storyline like this is going to be a big challenge, but also an extremely satisfying one, especially when our fans will help mould the narrative in an intriguing work of shared storytelling. Modiphius has always been on the cutting edge of roleplaying and bold new experiments like this are what we live for.
We have big plans for this year's Living Campaign, with a collected version of all the episodes in the works and all roads leading eventually to the epic Forest of Fear Campaign. Scattered throughout the various episodes, your investigators will find hints and clues pointing to a vast conspiracy in the heartland of Europe, which you may already have tasted in the storyline for our epic Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish. If you haven't, simply head on over to Secret War Operations which is also a free download where the full background story is revealed.
So, without further ado, sign up now, download A Light on the Mountain, have an enormous amount of fun playing it, and then look out for a survey heading your way, where you can record the results of your adventures. The next episode, The Blessed of the Wind is already taking shape and we'll be counting on your experiences to sharpen and enhance it. We're really looking forward to seeing the results.
Good luck and as they say, good hunting!
