(London, 6 July 2020). Modiphius announced today that the long-awaited Klingon edition of a Star Trek roleplaying game will be released this year, as a second core rulebook for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game. The Klingon Empire edition will be a complete 400-page hardback rulebook, with everything you need for you and your fellow players to explore the Star Trek setting as fearless and honorable Klingon warriors, seeking glory for their house and the Empire! Star Trek fans have waited more than 30 years for a dedicated Klingon roleplaying game, but they won’t have to wait much longer.
“A digital edition, in PDF format, will be available as soon as customers pre-order,” says Sam Webb, Head of Product at Modiphius. “With that, they can begin playing immediately. Then, when the world gets a bit more back to normal, we’ll produce an expanded version for print with more art. Customers will receive both a PDF of the expanded version, and the final version of the hardback rulebook that will go into retail.”
This edition of the award-winning, fan-favorite Star Trek tabletop roleplaying game doesn’t change much about the rules of play but does benefit from some textual revisions and more accessible explanations and examples of play. Jim Johnson, project manager for the game explains, “We were able to take lessons learned from the first core rulebook’s publication and streamline a few sections so that the rules are to understand and implement at the game table. Nathan Dowdell, the designer for this edition of the 2d20 System, revisited the rules chapters with us, and the team’s done a fantastic job of revising and editing this edition of the game. We were also able to add in more gameplay examples. I’m very proud of how it all came together!”
The Klingon Empire core rulebook will cover everything from creating your Klingon warrior – in any era of Star Trek – to creating your Klingon starship, and engaging in both ground combat and starship battles. It also includes an extensive study of the Klingon Empire, including its history, culture, worlds, society, warships, and technology, from renowned Star Trek authors, including novelists Dayton Ward (Star Trek: The Original Series—Agents of Influence, Star Trek: Kirk Fu Manual), Keith R.A. DeCandido (The Klingon Art of War, Klingon Empire: A Burning House), and Christopher L. Bennett (Arachne’s Crime, Star Trek: The Original Series—The Higher Frontier), as well as Star Trek Adventures writers and editors Jim Johnson, Nathan Dowdell, Sam Webb, Aaron M. Pollyea, Fred Love, Scott Pearson, and many more.
Dr. Lawrence M. Schoen of the Klingon Language Institute consulted on the book and provided both a foreword and an extensive primer on the Klingon language, as well as translations for various material throughout the book.
